Perpetual Beta

What does that mean? It’s tech lingo for “constantly in a state of remodeling”. Inside Planet Fassa, we decided a while ago that we would be in a state of perpetual beta. It occurred to me that we hadn’t shared this. So what does that really mean to you? In addition to the on-line children’s stories and activities, Planet Fassa will provide a system that makes it easy to connect and engage. We will ask you what you like, don’t like, and stuff you want. We will build new stuff, ask you to try it and tell us how you like it or how you’d like it changed. It also means we will track what gets used. We have tons of ideas for features and functionality that we, at Planet Fassa, think would be really cool. However, knowing a little about software development, the numbers are pretty surprising. Almost 40% of all software features developed never get used, and another twenty-something percent are rarely used. That means about a third of what gets built really gets used. If there are things that fall into the 40% “never gets used” bucket, we may very well take them down. Then we will focus on making the features you do use even better!

No doubt there will be some things that don’t go so well, but before we put a lot of effort into new features, we want to make sure it is something you find valuable. At the end of the day, we want to give you a fun, easy to use tool that helps kids and families engage, imagine, and play both on-line and off-line. We look forward to working closely with you to help us direct our world of perpetual beta.
