Taking Advantage of the Naughty List, Part 1

For some reason, all three of my kids are just not getting along these last couple of weeks. So, I have decided to take full advantage of the Naughty List this year with a little help from Santa and our elves, Geronimo and Alyssa. Over the next week, I’m going to give you 4 simple ways to use the Naughty List to inspire good behavior this year (and keep it going!)

Geronimo & His Note

We have two elves because when we moved, Geronimo couldn’t find us (i.e., he was lost in our stuff in storage for a year.) Our Elf appears at our home on December 1st every year. This year, Geronimo came on the first day and he was so excited to see the kids again. He showed up with candy for the advent calendar, the advent storybook, and a long note.

Geronimo first told the kids how much he missed and loved them,

“How much you 3 grew up in two years, I missed you so much.”

Then Geronimo told them that he and Alyssa hadn’t been getting along,

“Alyssa and I got into a fight about who got to come to your house this year. Santa was not happy with us. He said if we don’t find a way to compromise that we will both be on the Naughty List and be in time-out until Christmas.”

Santa also had Geronimo tell my kids that they are currently on the Nice List, but he has been watching them not get along and they could move to the Naughty List…unless they learn to be more respectful, use cooperation, and show teamwork to get along.

You should have seen my kids’ eyes, they were so big when they were reading the note – they could hardly believe it. And as soon as the note was read, their attitudes “surprisingly” changed and they started trying very hard to get along.

On Monday, I’ll reveal Alyssa’s follow-up note and how my kids reacted. My aim is to make this as simple as possible for you, and add some excitement and fun for your family this holiday season. Leave a comment for me if you have any questions or need any ideas, I’ll get back to you right away.
