Although I grew up in the beginning of this “Technology Era,” I was one of those kids that loved to play outdoors. In the suburbs of Boston, where I was raised, we had a big yard and a patch of woods that became my favorite place to explore. From building forts to following animal tracks, I spent much of my childhood swinging from trees and getting filthy in the woods. As I have gotten older, my love for nature and the outdoors has developed into a lifelong passion.
During my senior year of high school I took an Environmental Science class and everything seemed to click into place. The day I realized that I could spend my college years studying the environment and then seek a career in the field, I knew I had found my calling. This past spring I graduated with degrees in Environmental Sciences and Anthropology.
Fresh out of school, I was extremely lucky to be hired by Planet Fassa and was immediately onboard with its mission (to help build balanced kids that respect themselves, others and our planet). It is heartbreaking to think that children today are exposed to so much technology that many are missing out on creating what have become some of my fondest memories. The value of unstructured play cannot be overestimated; playing with others and creating our own games prepared me for many of the challenges I faced in college and now in my new job.
I have many roles at Planet Fassa, but perhaps my favorite responsibility is keeping Planet Fassa green and thinking of ways to nurture a love and respect for nature in children. Another role that I am excited about is coordinating volunteer projects for the Planet Fassa team. Just some of my ideas include participating in a 5K walk for charity, visiting with senior citizens, walking dogs at an animal shelter, and holding a clothing drive. Can you recommend any fun group volunteer opportunities?
